When it’s time to build or renovate, among the many decisions you’ll need to make include what kind of kitchen sinks and bathroom sinks (and possibly bar sinks) you want in your house. Just like everything else in this world today, our choices are practically endless. We’ll take a brief look at a few of these options as well as some of the options that go with these options, in this article. The subject is far too vast and opinions are far too varied for any definitive work here. However, if you’re at the very beginning, planning stages, perhaps this article will help you uncover a few possibilities.
For the moment, let’s just talk about kitchen sinks. Of course this space that you have to work with will be a significant determining factor in a type of kitchen sink you choose. For example, if you have a lot of room and like the rustic look, you might consider a farmhouse kitchen sink. The farmhouse think, also called an apron front sink, is what you might imagine in old-fashioned country home. A sink so big and deep you could fit the largest cooking pot in it easily and still have room left over. In fact you could easily use it as a bathtub for a baby, the way it was often used “back in the day”.
“Back in the day”, these big farmhouse kitchen sinks were most often made of porcelain. Today however, you can find them in all the materials from which sinks are made including granite, marble, concrete, stainless steel, glass and copper sinks. For that real rugged, rustic look, a hammered copper farm sink fits the bill perfectly. If you decide to go this route, just make sure the copper used in the manufacturing of your sink is 100% lead-free.
If the look you’re going after is much more of a modern look, then something like a vessel sink might be ideal. It’s funny, because the vessel sink is probably the oldest basic design for a sink (think of a big bowl sitting atop a counter). Nonetheless, these days it seems that in many modern establishments such as fancy resorts, restaurants, and hotels, the vessel sink is being used more and more frequently. Once again the material used can be anything from copper to porcelain to wood. However, some of the classiest, most modern looking varieties are the stainless steel and glass vessel sinks.
One more thing you’ll need to decide on when choosing your style of sink is the sink faucet. (This is what I referred to above as “the options for the option”). And once again your choices will be vast. One name that may not immediately come to mind but that should definitely be on your list for investigation is Danze faucets.
Danze is a relatively young plumbing company that started in the year 2000. However, despite their young age, they have managed to roll out over 1800 products, becoming the fastest growing plumbing company in the United States. Along the way they have won awards including the innovation award given out by Home Builder Executive in 2009 while creating faucets that saves over 40% on water as compared to a regular faucet. Their various collections range from ultra modern and sleek to contemporary Victorian, and everything in between. All the while their customers have raved about the ease-of-use of installation, the customer support, and the value for the dollar spent. Danze is definitely a name worth knowing when it comes to sinks, faucets, showers and other plumbing supplies.
As mentioned at the beginning, sinks and faucets are only a small part of home construction and/or renovation. Nonetheless, it is often the details that make the difference. Whether you intend to occupy your new space for years to come or if you are hoping to maximize the dollars invested by seducing buyers, making wise choices in sinks, faucets, and other kitchen, bath and bar accessories will be worth your while.
